No One Is Coming To Save Your Retirement
Watch the full video breakdown:
I was 38 years old when my uncle turned 70. We traveled to Kansas City to celebrate with the family for an incredible weekend. The first day I went golfing with my dad and uncles on a day that I'll never forget.
I was on the 7th hole when I made a comment about how terrible my shot was. My uncle asked me, "Didn't you comment that on the last hole?" to which I responded, "Yes." He laughed and said, "Well it seems to me that you're the common denominator."
I was quiet the rest of the round and kept thinking about that comment. I didn't like it. It was uncomfortable. It was as if I had some choice in how I golfed. I realized that was no accident.
After getting home, I noticed a few things I complained about at work, when I remembered that comment. That's when I realized no one is coming to save me. If I want something different, I have to BE different than I am right in this moment.
I know a lot of people who want more income from their jobs. They want more time to do what they want. They want a better relationship with their spouse or kids. They want nicer things. They want better vacations.
They want.
When asked how I've turned my life around, I tell stories of hard work. People leave me discouraged with their heads down. No One is Coming To Save You.
As a young man I left 5 jobs over a 3 year period for "personality differences" with my supervisors. I was the common denominator. I kept making the same bad decisions expecting everyone and everything around me to change when the reality was that I needed to change.
I get it, no one wants to change. We all have the answers of what's wrong, yet we don't get ahead.
If you want something different, YOU have to Be and Do something different.
To Get More, Become More.
It reminds me of a young wealthy man who went to see Jesus. He asked what he needed to do to gain eternal life. Go sell it all and follow was Jesus' response. That made the young man sad as he walked away. There was no party for the young man and Jesus didn't change, he called the young man to change.
The price of Succes is Personal Responsibility. The price of Success is to Be the Change you want to see. The price of Success is paid only by the one pursuing. No One is Coming to Save You!
I teach my clients how to buy, sell, and collect real estate portfolios. Why? I've been in the trenches for over 30 years during my career making a lot of mistakes along they way. I'm not where I hope to be yet and still working.
I work hard on myself.
Friends, 7 years ago, I had a credit score in the 400's. I was just fired from my dream job in full time ministry. I was renting an apartment I couldn't afford.
I put my head down and went to work. I had no money, so I found partners with cash and desire to start building.
My credit score recently hit 800 for the first time in my life. We are partners in well over 400 real estate units. I have a small real estate Investment Firm with 3 brokers, a small property management company, and a private money brokerage. I've accomplished more in the last 7 years than I did in the previous 25.
When you're armed with the right motivation and mindset that drives you to take personal responsibility, you'll be amazed and what you can accomplish.
Thomas Jefferson said, "Many people miss success because it's dressed in overalls and looks like work." (I paraphrased this...)
Tony Robbins tells us that "a man usually overestimates what he can do in a year and underestimates what he can do in five years."
You are the Common Denominator to YOUR Success. If you don't like where you are, change it.
Personal Responsibility and owning your ability and your power to get what you want or be who you want to be is real power.
Clear Decisive Action is Power.
Knowledge puffs up the ego.
Action separates the men from the boys.
I hear people complaining about wealthy people like Bezos, Musk, and Zuckerberg just taking while everyone else suffers. If they would just give 1 tenth of their income to those who work for them, everyone would live better.
What these complainers have done is quietly accepted their state of Victim Status. Are we victims to other people's success?
Is it the wealthy person's fault you stay at a dead end job you hate?
Is it the wealthy person's fault you are not willing to spend your nights and weekends building that thing you business you about?
Is it the wealthy person's fault you won't change to get what you want?
Bezos borrowed $10,000 from his family and started Amazon in his garage in the evenings and on the weekends.
Jobs borrowed money and built his first Apple II computer in his garage out of a wooden box.
Zucckerberg borrowed $1000 from a college buddy to start Facebook at Harvard, just before he dropped out.
Musk was a school teacher by day and computer programmer at night working for a dream, not dollars.
Success is measured in action and in results.
Results are often harsh, and always true. It's why I love golf.
I hit the ball. Sometimes it goes exactly where I want it to. Other times it ends up in some bad places. In both cases, I accept it and have to play it where it lies. Isn't that life?
No One is Coming to Save You!
Stop complaining about your situation and Change it.
Stop saying you don't have the money to invest and go find the path. I bought my first rental with zero down using an owner finance strategy.
I bought my next several deals using my partner's money.
I didn't use any of my own cash to buy a deal until two years ago. That deal will yield a 350% ROI because of the strategy I learned and applied.
Most of my career has been built leveraging the time, the talent, and the money of other people.
Left to myself, I've crashed and burned multiple times using only my time, my talent and my money.
To Have More, Be More.
No One is Coming to Save You.
You Are the Common Denominator of YOUR Success.
Did you know that AI can do most of what you want?
I know, you're scared of AI and have a million reasons not to use it?
Guess what, You're the Common Denominator standing in your own way of progress.
I was uncomfortable with AI a few years ago. Now I use it every day for simple and complex tasks.
I used it to prepare for a lawsuit. I used it to build my website and stay compliant with all the complex real estate laws. I use it to analyze market data in marketing my clients homes. I use it to edit my writing and video scripts. I use it as a mentoring council to advise my next big ideas. I use it to advise and keep me true to my retirement planning goals. I'm using it to plan my next big vacation to Europe.
You Are the Common Denominator.
You are the answer to your own dilema.
You have the power.
If you finished third grade, you can read which means you can learn which means YOU hold the key to YOUR success.
No One is Coming to Save YOU. That's Your Job. That's Your Mission.
For my Christian friends out there, this is not a statement of Salvation, it's a physical reality set in this world, not the next.
Wanting is not enough friends. It's time that you Become whoever it is YOU need to BE to get wherever it is YOU want to go.
